Car-free

Many streets in the heart of Mechelen are car-free between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. This means that during these hours cars, trucks and motorcycles are not allowed to enter these streets without a permit. If you disregard this, you will be caught on camera and you will receive a fine of 58 euros.

Mechelen is the first city in Flanders to become a real cycling city. In the whole the city centre motorised traffic must stay behind cyclists. However, the inner city remains accessible to everyone.
